It's Weaning Week!

Ahh weaning! Such an exciting time for parents and especially baby as they begin to try new and delicious foods. However, it can also be an extremely overwhelming time with so much advice and a plethora of products available. Enter Weaning Week – Taking place from 3rd – 9th May, it helps parents navigate this period of growth and development for your child, giving expert tips and advice as well as lots of different recipes to try. Head on over to www.weaningworld.com which is a one-stop shop for everything weaning related with content available all year round not just during Weaning Week. We have had a real nosey around the site and there are recipes that we even want to try for ourselves. Plus they also have some really simple but nutritious recipes courtesy of weaning legend Annabel Karmel.

Here at Baby Central we have lots of products to help make this transitional time as easy as possible for you – we can’t guarantee clean faces or clothes, but we can certainly guarantee fun mealtimes.

When baby first tries new foods our Dr Brown’s Silicone Feeder helps them take tiny tastes while safely self-feeding. It features a lightweight design that has tiny holes so little ones can enjoy fresh food or frozen treats. Think juicy strawberries, melon or tasty roasted sweet potato which are all great fresh firsts for baby. The Dr Brown’s Silicone Feeder has an ergonomic handle designed for little hands to hold and a bulb that fits perfectly in baby’s mouth. Suitable from 4 months plus, the feeder is available in twin packs with grey/green and grey/pink colourways.

Weaning is a messy business and that’s part of the fun for babies but not so much fun when having to clean up so it’s great to use products that can limit the mess. Our exclusive Dr Brown’s No Slip Suction Bowls stay put! Simply stick onto a flat surface and the strong suction will hold up to grabbing, pushing and pulling. It also makes it a lot easier for baby to navigate their first foray into self-feeding with a spoon as it won’t slide around. Plus, it also features a handy splash guard which comes into its own when serving cereals or soups. Using a Dr Brown’s Designed to Nourish Temp Check Spoon with the bowl will make mealtimes a breeze. They come in a multipack of four and are made of soft 100% silicone, which is gentle on baby’s gums, with a shallow scoop so they can easily pick up food themselves. Dr Brown’s products are designed to give parents peace of mind so mum and dad will love the temp checker as the spoon changes from colour to clear when food is around 105 degrees F (40.56 C) or higher.

One great thing about your baby’s weaning journey is the freedom it offers when it comes to mealtimes. With the right products you can pack up and eat on the go, make a picnic or eat out with friends and baby can join in. Since lockdown began, lots of this type of weaning product has proved popular as families have packed a bag and set out for a change of scene on their daily walk.

Our Dr Brown’s Snack-a-Pillar Stackable Snack Dipping Cups are a must-have for your weaning product arsenal and they do what they say on the tin. Simply stack, snack and dip! Can be used at home or on the go as they feature a twist to close, travel friendly lid and you can stack together lots of different snacks or liquid and use when needed.

The Dr Brown’s Toddler Snack Cup in Red Watermelon is super-cute and lets little ones munch here, there and everywhere! This sturdy cup won’t fall open when dropped and features Flexible, resilient flaps that are soft on toddler hands but keep food in the cup, for the perfect snack catcher. The handles make it easy for small hands to manage and helps babies aged 9 months plus become more independent when self-feeding. We did say that we can’t guarantee no mess but with the East Coast Tropical Friends Splash Mat you can at least protect your floor. In fact, it’s so handy it can be used when potty training and for messy play. Or roll it up and take with you to use as a handy picnic mat for little ones.
