Nursery Design Trends

Angela Bamforth, Interior Designer and founder of www.threeinteriordesign.co.uk gives her top nursery trends for 2021. Here are some ideas when choosing your schemes and decorating style in what will be the most important room in your house:

Earthy pastels/Boho

We have been seeing a lot of muted tones of dusky pink/terracotta/ochre/tan/cream- a trend that is really hot right now across all areas of interiors not just kids rooms, so it’ll be going strong well into 2021. The use of natural woods, linens, texture and macrame will work perfectly with this trend in your nursery and complement with wooden rather than plastic, toys.

Gender-Neutral nurseries using panelling

If you decide not to find out the sex of your baby prior to birth, a great way to add interest to a wall without having to go down a girl or boy route is the use of panelling. It’s robust, looks really effective, and can be painted out in the future easily. It also means a room will have longevity as it’s not too “babyish”

Painted scallops

They’re everywhere! And they’re sooo cute! They work particularly well as they can literally work in any room, you can do the whole room or just a feature wall. They add colour and interest without making a room feel overwhelming.

Dark ceilings/walls

A dark ceiling can look really dramatic and work really well in a kids room as well as other rooms in the house. A dark wall or two can also work- don’t be afraid of using darker colours in kids rooms, especially if it’s a room where they just sleep – it’ll feel lovely and cocooning.

Floral/Botanical Wallpaper

A beautiful wallpaper in a baby’s nursery can look just lovely. It’s more whimsical and creates a softer look, so probably more of a girls room choice.

Wall murals

A wall mural can be an awesome choice and it doesn’t have to be totally child orientated either. A forest mural is a great choice as it could be in situ all the way through to teenage years!

The Netflix show has a lot to answer for! A high level of organisation that functions well and looks AMAZING is definitely something that every house proud parent will be looking to attain for the foreseeable.
